Life drawing is one of my favourite activities, we'd have a model in twice a week on my foundation course, and would do all sorts of drawing, experimenting with line, tone, movement, light and shaddow. This really developed my drawing skills. Having a drawing module on this course has helped me to continute my development, especially looking at things carefully, drawing with perspective and working with colour and mark making.
Study of a female model, 2011
Although the angle was difficult to work from, I am quite pleased with the result of my drawing. I had to look really
hard as from where I was standing the model was considerably foreshortened.
Quick studies from life drawing class
Models back in pencil
Model facing me leaning over with her head down
Model from the back
Model bending forward towards me
Mark making in biro
Althought this was a quick excericse,
I feel these studies are successful in describing the form and shape of the model.
Quick studies capturing movement
Studies in charcoal, as the model moved around the room, we had to try and capture the shape and movement. The drawing on the left were more about tone and form. And the image in the top left we were taking away to create an image, using a rubber.
Life studies of a male model, 2010 Foundation
The image on the left is one of my first life drawings, we had to draw the model as he turned around every minute. On the right, I don't feel this image is particularly successful, I have learnt a lot since then. Although I don't feel the proportions are correct, I do feel I described the form and shape quite successfully in some areas.
